Trailing by two points and running out of time, Bryson Fisher pushes for one last surge to score a reversal and send his match into overtime. Fisher came so close but after a long deliberation, the refs signaled no points for the reversal and the match and his dream of a championship where over. (Johnson Publications Photo)

In the last 12 seconds of his match in the finals, Eli Hinojosa had three good pushes to score a takedown over Jason Hahlbeck of O’Neill, but each of them was defended and held off by Hahlbeck. Hahlbeck completed his undefeated season and repeated as champion but he will always remember that it was no easy feat, squeaking out a 1-0 win over Hinojosa in the finals. Longhorns have two in finals at state wrestling

The Chase County Longhorns took five wrestlers to the state tournament in Omaha.
Senior Bryson Fisher and junior Eli (Aaron) Hinojosa both came home with runner-up finishes, while juniors Caleb Weiss and Caine Haarberg along with freshman Trevor Peterson all came home with invaluable experience from the meet.
Chase County scored 46 points, finishing 12th out of the 57 Class C teams participating. Valentine ran away with the Class C title, finishing with 195 points, 87.5 ahead of second place David City.
In the 160 pound weight class, Fisher started off pinning his first two opponents in the Thursday afternoon session.
Friday night in the semifinals, Fisher (39-6) faced Jaden Janssen (40-11) of Crofton/Bloomfield. In a back and forth quick paced match, Fisher held on at the end to a 10-8 lead and a berth in the finals against Kyle Petree (37-8) of Aquinas Catholic.
Petree finished in second place at last year’s tournament in the 152 pound class.
Petree seemed to give Fisher trouble with his legs, but Fisher was able to free them enough to keep the match within reach.
In the final seconds of the third period, Fisher was down two points. He fought his way around Petree’s body and seemed to have a reversal as time ran out, which would have tied the match and sent it to sudden victory in a one minute period.
