Longhorns even record with shutout over Mitchell

Coach Dan Lenners’ Longhorns evened their record to 3-3 with a 15-0 shutout of C1-8 district foe Mitchell.
Friday’s game was played in a light, misty fog after drizzle and light rain had fallen much of the day.
That, and the accompanying wind, didn’t bother the Longhorns.
The wind proved to be a big factor in the first quarter, hindering Mitchell’s punting game.
The Longhorns’ first two drives inside Mitchell territory stalled. The Tigers’s second punt of the first quarter set the Longhorns up at the Mitchell 35.
The drive resulted in a 42-yard fieldgoal by Hayden Bahler to give the Longhorns first blood and a 3-0 lead as the quarter came to a close.
After another defensive stand, the Longhorns took over on their own 15 yard line and moved the ball to their own 45.
The Longhorns challenged the wind with Ryan Bernhardt hitting Kobe Clevenger out of the backfield, good for 30 yards. Clevenger added the score a play later from 25 yards out.
A missed kick left the score at 9-0 with 4:03 left in the half.
After the defense forced another Mitchell punt, the Longhorns got another shot before the end of the half.
