Longhorns end season in district final

After a tough loss to Grand Island Central Catholic (GICC) in the C1 district final Monday night, the Chase County Longhorns ended their 2018-19 season with a 16-6 record.
“It’s never a really good way to end the season on a loss,” Head Coach Chris Bartels said.
“But the kids are proud of what they’ve accomplished and they should be. A 16-6 record is nothing to be ashamed of.”
The first few points for both teams Monday were off of fouls.
By the end of the first quarter, though, the Crusaders took the lead, ending the quarter, leading 19-8.
“GICC is a really good basketball team,” Bartels added. “We knew that going in.”
The Longhorns had a large number of turnovers, leading to opportunities for GICC to score.
The Longhorns had 15 total turnovers, where the Crusaders had 10.
Senior Braden Space was again the leading scorer for the Longhorns, putting up 15 points.
In addition to being the high scorer for the night, Space also surpassed a career high of 1,000 points during the game against GICC.
Following Space in scoring was Parker Dillan, who put up eight points.
Also scoring were Cedric Maxwell and Scott Wheeler with six points each, Taylor Jablonski with four, Kobe Clevenger with three and Mason Nordhausen and Cole Wiest, each with two points.
The Crusaders advanced to the state championship in Lincoln with a score of 68-46 on Tuesday night.
