Longhorns 3-0 in district with 39-14 win over Sidney

Win sets up showdown with Ogallala for district championship, state playoff berth

The Sidney Red Raiders nearly erased the Chase County Longhorns’ three-touchdown lead Friday night, pulling within a score before the Longhorns put the game away.
Friday’s 39-14 win kept the Longhorns’ district record perfect and set up a showdown at Ogallala Friday night for the C1-8 district championship.
The winner of the district game gets an automatic berth into the C1 playoffs that start next week.
Ogallala brings a 6-2 record into the contest, with their most recent loss coming Friday to Gothenburg 44-6.
How that will affect them this week is anybody’s guess but Longhorn Head Coach Dan Lenners     knows Ogallala will be ready to play.
With the junior varsity schedule complete, Lenners used Monday to get an extra day of practice in for Friday night’s game.
A win would return the Longhorns to the playoffs for the first time since 2016.
“Our kids want that district championship and that’s been one of their goals all season long,” Lenners said after last week’s win.
He said Ogallala has some good athletes with a good quarterback and talented receivers and everyone knows it’s a big ball game for both teams.
