Longhorn wrestlers head to conference tourney this week

Coach hopes sickness bug will be long gone by Thursday

Just like many teams and athletes in the area, sickness has inundated the Chase County wrestling team.
Coach Matt Vlasin hopes the bug is long gone by today (Thursday) when they make the long trip to Bridgeport for the SPVA Conference wrestling tournament.
Vlasin said just three wrestlers were at practice Monday, and only five could make the trip to the Medicine Valley tourney last Friday.
He hopes to have his full roster of 10 at the SPVA tourney if everyone’s healthy.
“A lot of teams are fighting sickness. I’m hoping we’re on the tail end of ours,” he said.
Wrestling will get underway at 9 a.m. Thursday at Bridgeport High School.
If he had to pick the conference champion, Vlasin said he’d choose the hosts from Bridgeport.
Individually, Chase County’s Trevor Peterson should have a lock on the gold medal at 182, and Kenyan Biesecker has a shot at a top three placing at 138 lbs., Vlasin said.
