Longhorn wrestlers compete in dual tourney, Chadron invite
Chase County wrestlers were at two very different meets and levels of competition the past week, but gained valuable experience at both.
At last Thursday’s Hitchcock County quad, they faced competition from smaller schools including the hosts, Cambridge and Sutherland.
Then on Saturday, two team members traveled to the Chadron Invitational, that drew teams from at least three states.
Coach Matt Vlasin said wrestlers can compete in just 10 tournaments a season. Since he’s taken his younger wrestlers to some JV tourneys, they didn’t compete on Saturday.
That experience gained the past week is important as districts is just two weeks away.
Vlasin said he took eight wrestlers to the Hitchcock Co. quad, which he called “one of our better outings this season.”
He said it was the toughest they’ve wrestled as a team in a dual situation this season.
The quad tournament set up each team to wrestle the other three in a dual format.
In head-to-head competitions, Chase County finished 3-2 against Hitchcock County, 1-1 against Sutherland and 2-2 against Cambridge.
On Saturday, Kenyan Biesecker and Trevor Peterson competed in Chadron. Biesecker at 138 lbs. went 0-2 on the day, while Peterson earned the silver, suffering just his second loss this season in the finals.
