Longhorn track teams 68 strong

Thirty-six girls and 32 boys are out for the 2017 high school track teams at Chase County Schools. Weather has been up and down so far, but on Monday, athletes had perfect, cool temperatures for their workouts. Above, Coach Troy Hauxwell oversees the Lady Longhorn team as they go through arm movement drills. At left, these four Longhorns, from left, Francisco Barrientos, Caleb Weiss, Bryson Fisher and Scott Wheeler, run sprints on the infield. Both teams started practice the week of Feb. 27, and the first meet of the season is just a week away on Thursday, March 23, when Chase County competes at Perkins County in Grant. The Longhorns will host their home meet on April 18. (Johnson Publications photos)
