Longhorn Booster BBQ yields good food, good times, high spirits
The line of hungry school supporters was long, waiting to get plates of BBQ roast beef sandwiches, baked beans, chips and a drink Monday night.
Following supper coordinated by the Longhorn Booster Club, a pep rally and powder puff flag football game between junior and senior girls launched the fall sports seasons for Chase County Schools.
Several high school football players kept a watchful eye on the plays with head puff referee and CCS assistant football coach, Jeff Gleisberg, looking on.
Two cheerleading squads, made up of high school football players wielding pink pom poms, did their best to support the girls as they aggressively moved the ball up and down the field.
The senior girls (black team) put up a good fight against the juniors (pink team). But in the end, the pink team pulled ahead, winning the game 28-21.
“This was the closest and highest scoring game we have had since starting this event three years ago,” said Amanda Kimble, CCS cheerleading coach.
Following the game, all the students and five coaches joined together on the track in front of the grandstands for a question and answer session.
The coaches present were Denise Smith, softball; Dan Lenners, football; Carl Zuege, cross country; Jodie Schuller, volleyball and Kimble.
