Legion teams tally 4-0 weekend showing

    As the regular season winds down, Imperial’s Legion teams won all of their weekend games, including three junior wins and a big comeback win by the seniors.  
    The weekend wins against Sidney and Cozad upped the juniors’ record to 19-2 and the seniors to 8-5.
    The juniors had a pair of non-league double-headers yet this week with Sterling, Colorado before heading into the Area 7 District Tournament on July 12 in Overton.
    The seniors are done with regular season play.
    Duncan Rector will play in the senior league all-star game July 11 in Kearney. The senior District Tournament is set for July 19-23 in Valentine.
Juniors vs. Sidney
    Imperial’s juniors took a pair at Sidney Saturday, both by wide margins.
    In the late afternoon opener, Imperial scored 11 runs in the second en route to a 16-2 win after five.
    It was a one, two, three first inning for Imperial as their top three batters went down on strikes and a pop-up, but the offense came on the next three innings.
    In addition to 11 in the second, when they nearly batted around twice, Imperial scored another two in the third and three in the fourth.
    Sidney managed its two runs in their last at-bat in the fifth.
    Imperial put up 11 hits in the game to Sidney’s two.
    Plate leaders were Carter Leibbrandt with a trio of singles; Emmitt Zuege and Nolan Burrell, a double and a single; and Tysen Lempke, two singles.
    Jaret Peterson got the win as he struck out six, walked three and allowed just one hit and no runs in three innings on the mound.    
    Colin O’Neil finished the last two innings, striking out two, walking two, while giving up a hit and two runs.
    It was another blowout in game two, as Imperial closed the night with a 14-1 victory.
    Imperial held a 2-1 lead after the first, but then exploded with five runs in each of the next two innings, taking a big 12-1 lead and never looked back.
    Imperial tallied nine hits to Sidney’s five.
    Leading batters for Imperial were Ryan Bernhardt, who singled and doubled, and Jaret Peterson with three singles.
    Morel Jurado pitched 3.1 innings in the shortened four-inning game. He struck out two, walked none, gave up four hits and one run.
    Leibbrandt pitched for the game’s final two outs.
