Legion baseball teams on road this Sunday for season opener

It won’t be long before baseball fans will begin hearing the crack of the bat and cheering as the 2018 Legion baseball season gets underway Sunday.
But first, Imperial’s junior and senior teams will play a scrimmage tonight (Thursday) against a Cheylin, Kansas team in Imperial at Campbell Park.
After the teams played an opening scrimmage Tuesday this week in Benkelman, they’ll meet up again tonight for games starting at 6:30 p.m.
Imperial’s first games on the Mid-Nebraska Baseball League schedule are on Sunday when they travel to Holdrege.
May 30 will mark the home opener when the juniors host Broken Bow.
Imperial will host the district junior tournament this year in early July.
Coach Bruce Peterson has a roster with many experienced players this season after losing just one player from the 2017 senior team. Six team members are first-year Legion players, moving up from the Pee Wee League.
    The roster includes:
Senior Legion—Nolan Spady, Will Kuenne, Josie Peterson, Bryce Zuege, Noah Griffin, Duncan Rector.
Junior Legion—Austyn Laird, Dominic Sis, Bennett Bauerle, Trevor Peterson, Mason Nordhausen, Tell Richardson, Braxton McKinney, Brit Gockley, Emmitt Zuege, Ryan Bernhardt, Tysen Lempke, Morgan Peterson, Morel Jurado.
The season schedule is listed below. Unless noted otherwise, the dates include a junior/senior double header. Times listed are Mountain Time.
