Lady Longhorns tame Wauneta-Palisade

With good, balanced scoring, Chase County tamed the Lady Broncos of Wauneta-Palisade with a 14-point win Dec. 19.
Four Chase County players were in double figures, after holding Wauneta-Palisade to just two points in the opening quarter.
Asst. Coach Jeff Gleisberg, who handled the head coaching duties last week, said that first quarter deficit for W-P made a big difference in the game.
The Lady Broncos had difficulty getting into their half court offense against Chase County’s two-three zone, Gleisberg said. With a 25-2 lead in the second quarter, he switched the team to half court and the Lady Broncos got to the rim more and scored.
However, Chase County went to the lockerroom at half with a 34-14 lead.
A big factor in the game, Gleisberg acknowledged, was the absence of Lady Bronco leading scorer Faith Simpson, who didn’t play the first two quarters.
Gleisberg said the team relies heavily on Simpson, who averages more than 20 points a game. Last week, she  finished with a game-high 17 points in just two quarters of play.
“We’d had a closer game if she’d played all four quarters,” Gleisberg said.
The balanced scoring was something Gleisberg liked to see.
Sophie Spady came off the bench and scored 13 points after hitting three treys and a field goal, and went 2-2 at the free throw line. She also hit a pair of three-pointers in the JV game earlier.
Gleisberg said the play from Andrea Page also impressed him that night. She finished with 11 after a good night playing the high-low zone, he said.
