Lady Longhorns stand 8-7 after six matches last week

Last week’s three-set loss to Sidney proved to be much costlier than just a blemish on their record.
Senior hitter Allison Owings went down in the second set after coming down on a teammate’s foot, injuring her ankle.
She left the game and has missed the Lady Longhorns’ last five games.
Coach Jodie Schuller said it’s possible that Owings could return this week.
The team traveled to Grant Tuesday for a triangular with Perkins County and Gothenburg. Today, (Thursday) they host the second of their three home games which features a triangular with Maxwell and Sutherland.
Schuller said she’s tried two to three different lineups to find the right combination in Owings’s absence.
Unfortunately, she said they only had one practice to prepare before the Dundy County Stratton/St. Francis, Kansas triangular Thursday, Sept. 20.
Then, they only got one more practice before traveling to Sutherland for a tournament Saturday.
Overall, she was pleased how her team responded. Some kids really stepped up. “We just need a little more fire,” she said this week.
She noted they came out flat at St. Francis but did defeat them in two, However, they fell to DCS in three.
She said they came out much stronger against Sutherland. Despite falling to South Loup (Arnold/Callaway) and Overton, they came back with a big two-set win over Sutherland.
Sidney
The Longhorns fell in three sets at Sidney, 17-25, 16-25, 24-26.
