Lady Longhorns looking for wins

The Chase County girls’ basketball team has tangled with two buzzsaws in its last two games, losing to 6-1 Bridgeport last week and 6-2 Ord Monday.
The Longhorns traveled to Bridgeport Dec. 22 before the Christmas break.
Alexis Richmond and Bryn McNair powered the CCS offense in the first quarter, combining to score 14 points of the Longhorns 18. That 14 point total, however, was matched by Bridgeport’s Olivia Loomis-Goltl. Behind the freshman, the Bulldogs took an 18-19 lead.
 Chase County’s offense struggled in the second quarter. McNair scored all nine of the Longhorn points in the eight-minute stretch, leaving CCS trailing 27-32 at halftime.
Bridgeport was on fire in the third quarter, especially senior Sydney Nein who made three 3s in the first three minutes of the half.
Chase County’s offense was made up of two Richmond three pointers and a McNair layup to go with a bucket by Morgan Peterson off an inbounds pass. While the Bulldogs scored 27 points in the quarter, those three baskets accounted for Chase County’s 10 points.
The tables turned in the fourth quarter. Richmond made two three pointers from the baseline. McNair and Kora Weiss hit 3s of their own, helping CCS cut the lead to 10 points, 51-61, with 5:53 remaining.
The Longhorns’ offense continued to hit on all cylinders. Jordan Jablonski, Jerzee Milner, Richmond and McNair made baskets as CCS continued to cut into the deficit.
Milner completed a conventional three point play with 55.4 seconds left to bring CCS to withing three points, 67-70.
Those were Chase County’s last points of the game, however. Bridgeport hit its free throws in the final seconds to seal the 67-75 CCS loss.
McNair scored 25 and Richmond 21 points. McNair also led CCS with 12 rebounds. Jablonski and McNair each had four assists.
CCS finished with a 34-29 rebounding advantage, including pulling down 12 offensive rebounds.
Both teams shot well, Chase County had an eFG% of 49.2 while Bridgeport’s was 57.9%.
O. Loomis-Goltl surpassed her 18 point average with 26 points for Bridgeport.
Sidney Holiday Tournament
The Longhorns played Ord in Monday’s first round of the Sidney Holiday tournament.
Neither team played clean basketball in the first quarter when the squads traded turnovers and missed shots.
McNair scored Chase County’s first five points and went 3-4 from the free throw line over the first quarter’s final three minutes. Two driving baskets by the sophomore gave CCS a 13-10 lead, but it took two free throws by Jablonski for the
