Lady Longhorns head to subdistricts as top seed

The official bracket won’t be posted online until today (Thursday), but the Chase County girls are assured the top seed in next week’s C1-11 subdistrict basketball tournament in North Platte. Seeding was to be figured after regular season games Tuesday night. As the top seed, the Lady Longhorns will play Tuesday night against the winner of the #4 and #5 seed game.
Chase County’s game Tuesday will start at 5 p.m. MT at North Platte High School. The Lady Longhorns returned to the top 10 in NSAA point standings for C1 after games last week. One helping Chase County move up into the top 10 again was the stunning one-point victory at Wray, Colo., Jan. 31.
Before games this week, Hershey was at No. 30, Ogallala No. 32, Cozad No. 33 and Gothenburg No. 40. Tournament seeding is based on those NSAA point standings. In anticipation of the tournament, CCS Coach Mark Bottom is changing things up a bit this week for practice, since their regular season concluded Friday and they have an 11-day break before Tuesday’s subdistricts.                                                             In addition to regular practices Monday through Thursday this week, morning “shooting-only” sessions were scheduled Tuesday and Thursday, he said.
On Friday, the team and coaches will attend the Ogallala/Mitchell game in Ogallala. Mitchell will likely be the top seed in the C1-12 subdistrict, and if they win it, will face the C1-11 winner for a trip to state. On Saturday, Chase County players and coaches will be in Kearney to watch a college game at UNK.
