Two different emotions were on display after Chase County’s defeat of top-seeded Ogallala last Thursday night, which advanced the Lady Longhorns to the district finals on Friday. Lady Longhorns earn right to play another day

Chase County is one game away from state tourney berth

For the second time in three years, the Lady Longhorns are going to the district title basketball game.
One more win this Friday will punch the team’s ticket to the state tournament.
Chase County defied its C1-11 subdistrict No. 3 seeding last week to win the championship in back-to-back games, beating Hershey in the semi-finals and top-seeded Ogallala in the title game.
Now with a 14-9 record, Chase County will travel to Kearney on Friday to meet Wahoo, a 22-1 team that lost its first game in the subdistrict title game last week.
That 46-42 loss went to Bishop Neumann, also located in Wahoo, in the C1-4 title game.
Chase County Coach Mark Bottom said they are going to have to contend with Wahoo’s height, having three players who are 6 feet or taller.
Wahoo also has a strong 1-3-1 defense that they extend well, he said.
While Chase County will have its work cut out for them, Coach Bottom doesn’t believe Wahoo is invincible.
“But, we’ll need to deal with their size and force them out of that 1-3-1,” he said.
