Lady Longhorns earn No. 3 seed in Saturday’s conference tourney
It’s the middle of October and that means SPVA Conference volleyball.
As the conference moves back to SPVA member sites for its one-day tournament, Saturday’s action is set for Perkins County in Grant after several years at the neutral site in Ogallala.
Earning the No. 3 seed this year is about where Chase County Coach Jodie Schuller expected to be.
When seeding was completed Monday, Chase County was just a half-point out of the No. 2 spot, but held the No. 3 seed by just a tenth of a point over Bridgeport. NSAA points after weekend action were used in the SPVA seeding.
Top seed is North Platte St. Pat’s, who this week is 13-8. Hershey, 16-8, earned the No. 2 spot, followed by Chase County 13-9, Bridgeport 14-6, Sutherland 14-7, Kimball 8-11 and Perkins County 3-16.
The Lady Longhorns will go up against No. 6 Kimball in their opener Saturday at 11:30 a.m.
Whether they win or lose the opener, they’ll meet either Hershey or Perkins County in their second match. See the bracket for more details.
Schuller said winning the tournament is simple.
“They need to want it,” she said.
After a season with a lot of driving, and more to come, she’s glad the tournament is just 28 miles away.
Chase County was SPVA tournament champion last year, after defying their No. 5 seed.
They won the 2017 title after upsets over No. 4 seed Sutherland, top seed Bridgeport and No. 2 seed St. Pat’s.
In action last week, Chase County finished 2-1 with wins over Southwest and Perkins County. The Lady Longhorns lost to St. Pat’s. Here’s a recap of last week’s three matches.
