The Chase County Lady Longhorns opened a busy week of action on their home court with a strong performance before closing it out with a challenging game Friday night.
On Tuesday, Feb. 10, the Lady Longhorns played against the Hitchcock County Eagles. The game was played on Chase County’s home floor and opened as a tough game, with the score tied 8-8 at the end of the first quarter. Chase County found its momentum in the second quarter. By halftime, the Longhorns had built a 26-14 lead. They continued this lead in the second half and pulled away for a 59-42 victory.
Following the game, the team’s head coach, Zach Stauffer, stated he was proud of the way his team played, especially the bench in the second half. “I thought our ball movement was good when they pressed us,” Stauffer stated, “Our bench came in and gave us some great minutes there in the second and third quarter, that picked up our energy. I thought our bench made a big difference. I thought our bench came off and played well. I think we had around 15 to 20 points from them, so that’s always good.” This proved to be a difference maker, as Chase County turned a close first quarter into a comfortable win by the final buzzer.
The Lady Longhorns were back in action on Friday, February 13th, hosting the Maywood-Hays Center Wolves. The evening also served as Senior Night, honoring Miranda Spady, Anna Aragon, Karlie Anderson, and Marley Randall.
Each senior was recognized not only for her contributions on the court, but also for her plans beyond high school. Despite the celebratory atmosphere, the Wolves claimed a 71-35 victory.
These two home games concluded the Lady Longhorns regular scheduled season. Subdistricts will begin on Monday, February 16th, in Ogallala. They will play Chadrom at 4:00 mountain time. After the conclusion of that game, they will play once again in Ogallala on the 17th and once more on the 18th.
