Klooz second, Laird fourth at DCS meet

Chase County’s two varsity golfers got off to a good start for the season at the Dundy County Stratton meet in Benkelman April 2.
Senior Karsen Klooz shot even par 36 on the back nine after shooting a 42 on the front to finish with a 78 to finish second.
Coach Jeff Gleisberg said he knew Klooz was poised for a good meet based on the way he had been practicing.
He said it was the first time Klooz had ever shot even par for nine holes and the first time to shoot in the 70s.
He was three down to Cambridge’s Preston Carbaugh after 10 holes but got it back to 2 down. Both Klooz and Carbaugh shot 36s on the back nine with Carbaugh taking first with a 76.
Senior Austin Laird claimed fourth place with a 93. He shot a 51 on the front nine and then came back with a 41.
