Juniors win Holdrege tourney; team sports 10-0 season record

    Still undefeated at 10-0, Imperial’s juniors won the Holdrege baseball tournament Saturday in a week that included five games over four days.
    The week also included a win at Cozad and another pair from Sterling, Colorado’s 13’s in makeup play.
    At Saturday’s Holdrege tourney, Imperial opened with a 10-5 win over Broken Bow, then defeated Holdrege 9-1 in the championship game.
    In the opener, after a close first four innings, Ryan Bernhardt sparked the offense with a two-run homer in the fifth. Nolan Burrell hit a two-run double earlier that inning for a total of four Imperial runs.
    That put Imperial up 9-5 and they went on to win 10-5.
    Imperial tallied 12 hits in the game. Added to Bernhardt’s 2-3 at the plate, Bennett Bauerle went 3-3 with a trio of singles.
    Bauerle also got the win in six innings of work. He struck out five, walked two and gave up 10 hits and five runs. Morel Jurado came in on relief.
    In the finals, the juniors beat Holdrege 9-1, allowing the hosts their only run in the seventh.
    Trevor Peterson and Morgan Peterson doubled to lead the offense. Mason Nordhausen, Trye Hickey and Emmitt Zuege all singled.
    Jurado took the win, striking out three over four innings, and walking none. He gave up one hit and no runs.
    Jaret Peterson earned the save in three innings on the mound, also striking out three and allowing no walks on two hits and a run.
