Juniors hold top seed going into tourney

Seniors sitting 3-5; no tourney info available yet

Imperial junior and senior Legion teams hosted Ogallala last week.
Ogallala held both games, giving the Horns 6-0 losses each to the juniors and seniors.
In the junior game, the Horns had trouble putting runs on the board.
One bright spot was a single by Morel Jurado in the second inning.
Tristan Hite took the loss for the Horns, allowing five runs on seven hits and striking out four.
Jurado led offensively with two hits in three at bats.
Ogallala did better, racking up seven hits in the game.
The seniors fell behind early against Ogallala and couldn’t come back.
Ogallala took the lead on an error in the first inning.
Trevor Peterson took the loss for the seniors. He went six innings, allowing eight hits and six runs while striking out four.
The Horns didn’t get any hits against Ogallala.
Broken Bow
Imperial hosted Broken Bow in a junior and senior game each on Saturday.
The juniors battled hard but Broken Bow pulled away late in a 5-7 loss for Imperial, despite Imperial out-hitting Broken Bow 10-9.
Nolan Burrell took the loss for the Horns. He allowed seven runs on eight hits while striking out nine.
Emmitt Zuege and Hite each collected multiple hits for the Horns, with Zuege leading with three hits in four at-bats.
The seniors came away with a 4-1 win against Broken Bow.
In the second inning, Imperial got the runs going, scoring on an error.
Dominic Sis took the win for Imperial. He went six innings, allowing one run on five hits, striking out seven and walking one.
Jaret Peterson pitched one inning, taking the last three outs for Imperial.
Imperial had seven hits, including Tysen Lempke, Burrel and Mason Nordhausen racking up multiple hits.
Hershland
The juniors hosted a doubleheader with Hershland Sunday.
Imperial took both wins, going 14-13 during the first game and 9-1 during the second.
In game one, Lempke was on the mound for the Horns. He allowed three runs on two hits and struck out eight.
Colin O’Neil came on in relief. He allowed seven runs on four hits and struck out five.
Hite went two-of-three at the plate, leading Imperial in hits.
Imperial had 12 stolen bases, with Keenan Cole having three successful steals.
In game two, Imperial scored six runs in the fourth inning to take the win. That was started by a walk by O’Neil, a single by Jaret Peterson, an error on a ball put into play by Jurado and a double by Burrell.
Jaret Peterson pitched for the Horns. He went five innings, allowing one run on three hits and struck out eight.
Zuege led offensively with two hits in three at-bats.
Imperial didn’t have any errors in the second game.
Tournament
With Hershland finishing out the juniors’ season, the team will play in the Mid-Nebraska League Tournament July 16-19. Imperial will compete in the west division as the top seed, which will be followed by the junior championship game on July 22 (east winner vs. west winner).
There are no state or district Legion tournaments this summer due to COVID-19.
In the west division are Imperial, Broken Bow, Ogallala, Gothenburg and Holdrege.
Imperial will host the winner of Gothenburg and Holdrege Saturday at 3:30 p.m. MT.
Head Coach Bruce Peterson is unsure where the seniors will sit going into their tournament.
The senior tourney will be played July 26-29.
