Juniors come up winless in three starts
Imperial’s Junior Legion came up winless in their last three starts against Ogallala, Gothenburg and Lexington.
The Juniors were back in action Tuesday in Imperial against Holdrege.
On Sunday, they travel to Hershey to play Hershland.
The juniors dropped a 11-0 five-inning decision to Ogallala’s juniors Wednesday, May 31.
Pitcher Duncan Rector struck out the first two batters he faced but gave up a walk and two base hits as Imperial trailed 1-0.
In the bottom of the first, second baseman Bryce Zuege and catcher Trevor Peterson got back-to-back, one-out singles.
Zuege got to third and Peterson second but a strikeout and groundout ended the inning.
After Rector retired Ogallala in order, including a pair of strikeouts, in the top of the second, Imperial’s Bennett Bauerle and Tell Richardson got free passes but were left stranded again.
Ogallala picked up a pair in the top of the third and only Peterson collected a single and made it to third before the inning ended.
In the top of the fourth, Ogallala’s bats came alive, with a double and three singles. That was good enough for four runs.
They added four more in the fifth while the juniors went down in order in both the fourth and fifth.
Peterson went 2-3 at the plate with a pair of single. Richardson’s double and Zuege’s single were the only other hits.
Rector allowed nine hits and three walks against four strikeouts over 3 2/3 innings.
Domonic Sis came on in relief, giving up two hits and one walk.
Gothenburg came to Imperial Friday night and left with a 12-2 win over Imperial’s juniors.
Trailing 6-0 going into the bottom of the third, Imperial got on the board when Peterson singled. He moved around the bases, aided by a single from Sis.
Sis was stranded at third to end the inning.
Gothenburg added another run in the fourth five in the top of the fifth.
Imperial went hitless in the fourth and with Peterson scoring one in the fifth off a single by Sis.
