Junior softball team opens season with 3-1 record

After a pair of double-headers, Imperial’s junior girls’ softball team is 3-1 on the season.
Imperial played its first games at home on Monday this week, coming on top with two wins against Hershey.
Imperial took the opener, 9-6. Morayah Cupp pitched her first game, throwing all five innings. While facing 25 batters, she struck out two and gave up six walks.
Having a good night at the plate, Imperial was led by Elizabeth Reeves, who scored two triples. Two singles and a double were recorded by Morgan Peterson, along with a double from Correy Koellner, and singles from Cupp, Sadie Peterson and Courtney Odens.
In the nightcap, Imperial also won by a three-point margin, 14-11.
Jerzee Milner pitched four complete innings to complete the game due to time limit, facing 28 batters, while striking out two and walking four.
The ‘Horns jumped out to a quick lead, scoring nine in the first, and adding another three in the second.
In the third, however, Imperial gave up 10 runs to Wallace on a string of defensive errors which nearly tied the game at 12-11.
Imperial put two more across home plate in the third, and then Milner single handedly recorded all three outs in Wallace’s last at-bat in the top of the fourth. She had two defensive put-outs with the assistance of Courtney Odens at first and a strikeout to end the game.
At the plate, Imperial was led with a single and double from Morgan Peterson, singles from Jordan Jablonski, Milner and Valerie Herbert, along with two singles each from Odens, Koellner and Lucy Spady.
