Joggin for Frogmen: running to remember

The fourth annual Imperial Joggin’ for Frogmen had a good turn out considering the inclement weather.
“It was kind of perfect weather for running,” said Kelsey Owens, Imperial race coordinator.
There were a total of 93 participants who ran in the 5k, and that number does not include the many who participated in the Toddler Trot.
Some participants were well versed in these kinds of competitions while for others it was their first and maybe only 5k.
Whatever the running history, all participants were there to honor and remember one thing—the Navy SEAL heroes who had given their lives fighting for this country’s freedom.
Owens kicked of this year’s race opening ceremony with a moment of silence .
Then, in a touching tribute and reminder of the purpose behind that somewhat dreary morning race, Owens’ opening speech left the majority of participants and volunteers with tears in their eyes.
“It is our mission to help preserve the legacy of all our heroes whether your military hero is deployed, safe at home with family or died protecting our freedom, we want  you to get out there and jog or walk for them. Every step you take today, every breath you take, every rain drop that hits your face, do it for them.
Do it for the constant battle they face daily, the memories they can’t forget and for the love of our country. For freedom which would not be possible without the men who run towards danger,” said Owens
