Joggin’ for Frogmen event gearing up for annual run

    Registrations are slightly ahead of last year’s numbers at this time of year for Imperial’s Joggin’ for Frogmen 5K and Tadpole Trot.
    Set for Memorial weekend on Saturday, May 26, coordinator Kelsey Owens said she’s getting excited for the annual fundraiser for the Navy Seal Foundation.
    On Tuesday, Owens said 55 were registered, up about 10 from this time last year. The 5K race in 2017 included 108 runners/walkers.
    Opening ceremonies next weekend start at 9 a.m. with the 5K start set at 9:15 a.m. Registration gets underway at 7 a.m.
    One big change this year—the gathering and starting area for the race and Tadpole Trot will move a block north on the other side of Campbell Park due to the skatepark construction, she said.
    Participants and spectators are encouraged to park on West 6th Street, however, so 7th Street stays open for the races.
    Retired Gunnery Sgt. Eric Gonzalez of Imperial will be the guest speaker.
    A food service truck will be on site this year, Owens said, offering both breakfast and lunch items and drinks.
Online registration offers
discounts on race fee
    Owens reminds runners there are two ways to get discounts on race participation online.
    Youths age 7-17 will pay a flat $20 fee by using the code hs15off.    
    Other 5K fees are $35 for civilian runners, $30 for active duty military and $45 for “virtual” runners. Fee for age six and younger in the Tadpole Trot is $10.
    Except for the Tadpole runners, Owens said others can get $5 off their registration cost by using the code FROGNE when registering online.
    Discounts are not eligible for those registering the day of the race.
    Packet pickup will be at 509 Broadway in Imperial from 2 to 5 p.m. Friday, May 25. Participants in the races will get a 20 percent discount at the store both Friday and Saturday.
    Owens said registration packet info will be included in a frog-green colored shoe bag this year provided by Joggin’ for Frogmen.
    There will be a lot of great raffle prizes, too, to be awarded on race day, Owens said. Tickets will be available to buy both Friday and Saturday on race weekend.
