Amid a group of Class C runners, Chase County’s Jordan Jablonski maintains her position at the state cross country meet in Kearney Friday.
Jablonski finishes in top half at Class C state meet
Jordan Jablonski did all that was expected at Friday’s Class C state cross country meet.
Coach Carl Zuege believed she could finish in the top half of the field, and that’s exactly what she did after running the 5K course in Kearney more than a minute faster than her time at the UNK meet last month.
Her performance put her 55th among the 115 girls running in Class C. She crossed the finish with a time of 21:55.
Zuege said she was sitting about 50th when she hit the first mile marker and held her position the rest of the way. He said the coaches were happy with her start and how she got out among the runners.
“Jordan competed well and ran hard,” Zuege said.
“She had a good week of practice beforehand.”
While Jablonski, a junior, was Chase County’s only competitor at state this year, it helped her preparation the week before to have a couple teammates run with her after she qualified at the Oct. 15 district meet, Zuege said.
Alexus Sindelar, a junior from Pierce, took the individual gold medal in Class C with a time of 19:18.10. Pierce finished sixth in team standings.
The top 10 teams in Class C, in order of placing, were Boone Central, Douglas Co. West, Lincoln Christian, Ogallala, Chadron, Pierce, Sidney, Fort Calhoun, Milford and Minden.
Three of the top 10 teams—Ogallala, Chadron and Sidney—came out of the C5 District in which Chase County competed two weeks ago, when they finished one, two and three in team standings.
Looking to 2021
Coach Zuege feels good about next year’s season when seven of this year’s nine on the girls’ team will be back, along with two good freshmen runners on the boys’ side.
