Imperial 1 takes wins over Wallace, Paxton; Imperial 2 shuts out Paxton
After a 2-19 loss to Ogallala 1 on June 1, Imperial 1 redeemed themselves with two good wins.
They had a 5-2 win over Wallace and 12-2 win over Paxton last week, putting their record 3-1 on the season.
On June 5 Imperial 1’s defense played a key role in their win over Wallace. Imperial 1 gave up seven hits but only allowed two runs to score.
Jason Nelson lead the team in RBI’s with two, followed by Tyler O’Neil and Malachi Christensen, each with one.
Head Coach Ryan Baker said, “Jason and Malachi are impressing me right now at the plate.”
“These are two kids who didn’t get a hit all last year and they’ve been working hard in practice and on their own time to improve and that is what I love to see at this age,” he added.
On June 6, Imperial 1’s defense once again helped win the game.
Cooper Dillon pitched the entire game and struck-out six and walked seven.
Dillon threw 13 first pitch strikes and had a strike percentage of 44 percent.
“I’m proud of (Dillan). He hasn’t played in a couple years and kept saying ‘I’m getting into my grove,’” Baker said.
Against Paxton, Imperial 1 stole 23 bases and collected 11 hits.
Jason Nelson, Carter Leibbrandt, Jensen Olsen and Michael Duvel all had multiple hits.
“There were only two guys on the team who didn’t have hits, which is huge for this team,” Baker said.
Imperial 1 is on the road to Ogallala 2, Sutherland, Ogallala 3 and Hershey before coming back home on June 29 to play Ogallala 2 again.
