Imperial’s junior girls lose extra-inning game

The Imperial junior softball team had its first game of the season against Paxton at home last Thursday.
“The girls had a great first game,” softball mom Kelly Maronde said.
Maronde is also the mother of the junior team’s coach Atlanta Maronde.
Paxton came away with an 11-8 extra-inning win.
Seven of the on-bases for Imperial came from walks. There were also seven doubles, six singles and four triples.
Catcher Peyton Owens also got on base from an error, Imperial players were hit by a pitch four times through the night.
Owens and shortstop Ansley Maronde led the team on runs scored with two runs each.
Also scoring for Imperial were Kathya Aragon, Abby Spicer and Miranda Spady.
In the fifth Inning, Maronde, Aragon and Spady got on base and each scored, tying the game 8-8.
Errors and strikeouts ended the game for Imperial in an extra inning.
“It was a loss, but it was a great game,” Kelly Maronde said.
