Haven and Addison Hauxwell bring home individual medals and the girls team brings home Chase County’s first Cross Country State Championship.
It was less than a month ago, the cross country teams competed at the UNK Invitational and the girls team finished second to Scotus Central Catholic.
At the State Meet, all four of the scoring girls times had cut between 1:18 to 1:25 off their previous times for the Chase County girls and that was enough to jump into first place and take the State Title for Class C-1, ahead of second place Adams Central. Scotus Central Catholic dropped to third place..
It was the same girls running on Friday, that ran on Sept. 25, but the Longhorn girls all had better times at the State Meet than they did at the September 29th meet.
Addison Hauxwell was the top runner for the Longhorns, finishing in fourth place, with a time of 19:38.81. She cut 1:25.06 off her time from September and finished five spots higher.
Alayna Smith finished 20th,  cutting 1:18.25 off her time, finishing the race in 20:26.31.
Tessa Smith finished 24th, with a time of 20:47.59, 1:24.18 faster than her Sept. run.
Liz Hanna finished 49th,  with a time of 21:41.43, 1:18.24 better than her time in Sept.
Paige Nickless finished in 107th and Zoey Kelley 113th, both with greatly improved times from the first race.
Haven Hauxwell was the only runner that qualified for the boys team and he made the best of the day, finishing in eighth place and bringing home a medal. He cut 52.35 seconds off his time from September.
