Girls capture consolation plaque in SPVA tourney

Champs from St. Pat’s hand Chase County its only tourney loss

While a third place finish was two places above their seeding, the Lady Longhorns and coaches have to wonder if they might have done better.
All of the girls in the varsity rotation were hit with the flu bug last week, and missed school at least one day, said Coach Mark Bottom.
While he wasn’t making excuses, Bottom said they certainly felt they could have done better in the semi-final game against North Platte St. Pat’s, who earned the tournament title Saturday night.
No. 5 seed Chase County won its other two tournament games over No. 4 Kimball and No. 2 Bridgeport after big second halves of offense.
But Friday’s 69-37 loss to St. Pat’s took Chase County out of the title game.
Bottom said one word describes how they all felt after the St. Pat’s loss—disappointed.
“We should have played better than we did,” he said.
