Girls advance to subdistrict title game

    In dominating fashion Tuesday night, Chase County advanced to the C1-11 subdistrict final game tonight (Thursday).
    The top-seeded Lady Longhorns’ 53-22 defeat of Cozad Tuesday sends them into the subdistrict finals tonight (Thursday) against Gothenburg, the No. 2 seed.
    Tuesday’s win lifted Chase County’s record to 17-3.
    Gothenburg, now 13-8, put away No. 3 seed Hershey Tuesday with a 51-38 win.
    Thursday night’s game at North Platte High School will tip off at 7 p.m. CT, with the winner automatically advancing to the district final game next Friday, Feb. 28.
    Even with a loss Thursday night, the Lady Longhorns will likely advance to the Feb. 28 game. A win, however, will maintain a higher point standing.
    After Tuesday’s win, Chase County stayed at No. 8 in the NSAA point standings, just 0.21 of a point out of seventh.
    All 12 subdistrict winners in Class C1 Thursday will advance to the district finals next week, in addition to the next four teams with the highest points.
    Based on their power points, those 16 teams will be bracketed in Feb. 28 games that will pit the No. 1 seed against No. 16, No. 2 against No. 15, etc. Those eight winners will compete at state.
    The Feb. 28 games will be played at neutral sites.
    Chase County and Cozad got off to a very slow start Tuesday with the Lady Longhorns holding a slim 6-4 lead after the first quarter.
    Chase County’s offense then took off, with double-digit scoring in the last three quarters,while holding Cozad to just four points in the second and two in the third
    Scoring in the Cozad win were Mallie McNair 20, Ashley Bubak 12, Jordan Jablonski 9, Alexis Richmond 8, Bryn McNair 2 and Giselle Acuna 2.
