Football season opens here Friday against Gothenburg

ach other for more than two weeks, Dan Lenners’ Longhorns are ready for a game so they can hit someone else.
    Lenners goes into the season optimistic based on a good summer workout routine and a good preseason practices.
    The 29-strong Longhorns will open the season here Friday night against Gothenburg.
    Lenners said Longhorn fans will see a new up-tempo offense this season.
    He said the kids are excited about it and have worked hard to get it in place. Offensive calls will be made from the sideline with a numbering system.
    Assistant Dan Westover has taken over the offensive duties this season.
    Lenners said their goal is to get the ball in the hands of their skill players, which bring the most experience to the team this season.
    On the line, junior Mikael Kuhlmann is the only returning starter.  He will be joined by center Blaine Dorn and interior linemen Levi Nance, Trevor Peterson and Cole Weist.
    Lenners said there will be other personnel rotating in as well.
    In the backfield, Scott Wheeler will be calling the signals with Bennett Bauerle to back him up.
    Parker Dillan and Braden Space will play at the wide-out position with Kadyn Vrbas and Chase Rowley working at slotback.
