Cozad in town for varsity, JV softball games Sept. 18

District tournament in Cozad next week

Chase County hosted Cozad Sept. 18 for varsity and JV softball games, one of just five home appearances the Lady Longhorns have in the short six-week season.
Both five-inning games were won by Cozad, who the Lady Longhorns may see in next week’s C6 District Tournament in Cozad.
Coach Denise Smith said brackets should be out early next week for the tournament Oct. 4-5.
Late last week, the NSAA point standings for the C6 tournament teams show Chase County would be the No. 6 seed in the seven-team tournament. Southern Valley/Alma, with a 15-6 record last week, looks to be the tournament top seed, with CCV in the No. 2 spot.
The top seed will have a first round bye in the double-elimination tournament.
Chase County’s final regular season games will be played this Saturday at Schroeder Park when they host a varsity triangular with Alliance and Chadron. Games are set to start at 12 noon.
Four Chase County players were still off the roster last week, three due to injuries. That left the team with nine players early this week, with hopes of having at least one back this weekend, Smith said.
Two games last Thursday in Ogallala at the Gothenburg tournament got started but only three innings were played in the opener for Chase County before rain cancelled play. The games won’t be made up, Smith said.
