This county fair, youths observe adults in showmanship contests
Sometimes, all the 4-H competition can be stressful both for the youths and parents.
However, the 4-H Council and Chase County Extension staff have organized a new event for the adults this year at fair that is hoped to be both fun and, in turn, raise some funds for the 4-H Booster account.
If Sunday’s adult showmanship contest at the 4-H horse show was a forecast for the rest of the week, there is some more fun ahead.
Extension Educator Debbie Kuenning said a 4-H member had seen the adult showmanship contest at another area fair and brought it to the 4-H Council to consider here.
They voted to try it, Kuenning said.
“Sunday’s contest at the horse show was fantastic. Everyone had a good time,” she said.
Twelve adults took part, paying $10 each. Half of what was collected went to the winner with the other half to the Booster account.
Adults, parents or 4-H alumni can take part in shows the rest of this week at Wednesday’s swine, sheep and goat shows, and again on Thursday at the beef show.
