Chase County Longhorns are runner-up in SPVA Wrestling

    The boys wrestling team traveled to Bridgeport Thursday Feb. 6 for the WTC/SPVA/MAC/PAC Tournament.
    The Longhorns finished in fourth place, two spots behind SPVA foe North Platte St. Pats. Out of the 10 wrestlers for Chase County, nine returned home with a medal.
    Scott Hoover took championship honors at 165 pounds. Dylan Miscles, (106), Luis Co, (144) and Zach Tarin, (285), all finished in second place. Jaqueb Hoover, (132) and Westyn Mendenhall, (157), finished in third, Destry Russell, (150) and Parker Terryberry, (175), finished fourth, while Damon Spady finished sixth at 126 pounds. Luke Kuenning wrestled at 113 pounds.

    132 Jaqueb Hoover (32-19): bye, won by decision over Taylor Eichthaler (BP) 12-6, was pinned by Hudson Deads (NPSP) 5:18, pinned Luke Wetherington (Bay) 1:00, won by decision over Bryant Zimmerman (Mor) 6-5 for third place.

    285 Zach Tarin (41-1): bye, pinned Wyatt Blomekamp (Mit) 3:32, lost by decision to Lain Tausan (G-R) 1-2 for second place. This was Zach’s first loss of the year.
    Next year the SPVA conference will have a different look. Sutherland will be leaving the conference due to declining numbers in the school. They will be joining the Republican Activities Conference.
    Mitchell will leave the Western Trail Conference and join the SPVA Conference. Valentine will leave the Southwest Conference and also join the SPVA. This will all happen in the fall of 2025.
    The South Platte Valley Association will then consist of Chase County, Hershey, Mitchell, North Platte St. Pats, Perkins County and Valentine.
Next action
    The Chase County Boys Wrestling Team will travel to Kearney on Feb. 15 for the Class C, District 4 Tournament, to be held at Kearney Catholic High School, to vie for a chance at going to the State Tournament in Omaha, Feb. 20-22.
