Chase County girls improve to 11-4

Lady Longhorns topple Kimball in SPVA opener

 With six straight wins, the Chase County girls’ basketball is 11-4 and on to the next round of the SPVA conference tournament. CCS beat Kimball (2-5) 64-18 Tuesday night.
The Longhorns only led by six, 12-6, at the end of the first. Behind eight points by Bryn McNair, who finished the night with 24, CCS extended that lead to 26-11 at halftime.
A 25 point third quarter gave CCS the breathing room it needed to clear its bench early in the fourth quarter.
The Longhorns will now face Bridgeport, 68-20 winners over Sutherland, Friday in North Platte at 8 p.m CT. Final tournament games will be Saturday.
Four games in one week
    Counting the tournament game, Chase County had three home games and one away game last week.
    The Longhorns beat Southern Valley (5-8) Jan. 12.
    The CCS press gave the Eagles fits in the game. Four different Longhorns scored in the first quarter as Chase County took a 16-5 lead.
    A three pointer by Jerzee Milner put up the Longhorns’ first points over the first 5:30 of the second quarter. Southern Valley took advantage, cutting the gap to 19-15. Another Milner three pointer kept the lead at four points, 24-20, at halftime.
    CCS came out with a different intensity the second half. The Eagles scored their only points of the third quarter on their first possession. From there on, it was all about the Longhorns. Five players scored for Chase County and the lead grew to 45-22.
    The Longhorns turned on the cruise in the fourth quarter for the 50-30 win.
    Milner scored 15 points to lead CCS. Alexis Richmond and
McNair added 13 points each. McNair had eight rebounds. Jordan Jablonski had five assists and six rebounds.
