The CCS girls softball team ended their season Tuesday, Sept. 7, in the first round of sub-district play in Hastings.
The Lady Longhorns entered the C-1 sub-district tournament as the number five seed, with a record of 1-19. That placed them in the first game against number four seed, Highway 91, who had a record of 2-22, with the winner to face the number one seed, Hastings St. Cecilia (21-6).
The game was scheduled for Monday, Oct. 6, but was postponed until Tuesday, due to rain. The Longhorns couldn’t get anything going offensively with the bats, scoring only one run in the three inning game.
Meanwhile, the Highway 91 Team, (Leigh Ne.), batted through the order in the first inning, plating 10 runs to the Longhorns zero.
In the second inning, the Longhorns were shut out again, while Highway 91 scored one. In the top of the third, the Longhorns scored one run but Highway 91 plated three in the bottom of the inning, finishing the game with the twelve run rule after three innings, 1-14 and bringing the Longhorn season to an end.
Hastings St. Cecilia went on to win the C-1 sub-district tournament by beating Highway 91 by a score of 10-2 and then defeating the number three seed, Wilbur-Clatonia in the finals, 12-3.
