CCS softball falls to Gering, Chadron

It was another tough week for the Chase County softball team, but the group competed better in games against Gering and Chadron.
CCS traveled to Gering for a double header Sept. 15. The Lady Longhorns lost their first game 0-12. Ryley Vrbas had two hits and a stolen base in  the game. Jaiden Hill allowed eight hits and six walks.
In the second game CCS took a 3-2 lead in the second inning after walks by Ashlie Benge and Annika McDaniel were followed by a single from Vrbas. Courtney Odens and Ella O’Neil also had hits in the inning. The Lady Longhorns’ offense stalled in the third inning and CCS gave up 14 runs to Gering in the 3-16 loss.
CCS Head Coach Denise Smith said that’s been the trend all season long for her team. Overall play is improving, but there always seems to be a “killer inning” when nothing goes right.
Kayla Chavira walked nine and gave up 11 hits in the game. O’Neil had two hits.
Last Friday, the Lady Longhorns hosted Chadron.
CCS trailed 0-2 after the first inning, but came back to take a 6-2 lead at the end of the second. Markenna Terryberry scored on a Morayah Cupp double. After Aurora Greibel was hit by a pitch, Jesusita Ruiz, Vrbas and Odens picked up walks and each scored.
Both teams went scoreless in the third inning, then each scored a run in the fourth
