Chase County Schools graduate Josie Peterson is competing this week at the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) outdoor track and field national championships.
Peterson, a 2017 graduate of CCS, is a sophomore at Hastings College and the daughter of Bruce and Crystal Peterson of Imperial.
The Hastings track and field teams traveled to Gulf Shore, Alabama earlier this week, where Peterson is one of 21 Bronco athletes competing at nationals.
“(Josie) has made a lot of progress,” Hastings Track & Field Coach Ryan Mahoney said. “She’s just a hard-working kid.”
Peterson competed at the indoor national championships in March, where she had a vault of 3.57 meters (11’7”).
This is her first outdoor championships “and she’s only a sophomore,” Mahoney said.
Peterson’s vault that got her to nationals was 3.61 meters (11’10”).
“We will post updated results of nationals on our Twitter page (twitter.com/Hastingsbroncos),” Mahoney said.
