The CCS Girls Basketball Team (3-6), traveled to Benkelman on Tuesday, Jan. 6, for games with the undefeated Dundy County/Stratton Tigers.
The Longhorns stayed with the Tigers in the first quarter and trailed by just two at the end of the first period, 12-14.
The Tigers defense stiffened in the second quarter and their shooting heated up, scoring 23 points while holding the Horns to just nine, giving the Tigers a 21-37 lead at the half.
The Horns shooting heated up in the second half and the girls closed the gap to seven at the end of the third quarter, 39-46.
In the fourth quarter, the Longhorns closed the gap to just a single point before the Tigers hit three three-pointers back-to-back-to-back. The Horns dropped the game 54-61.
The girls bounced back Saturday night when they traveled to Kimball. The Horns started off hot, scoring 28 in the first quarter, while holding Kimball to just 11. Kimball closed the gap in the second quarter to 31 to 19 at halftime.
Neither team could get things going in the third but the Horns got hot in the fourth quarter, out scoring Kimball 22 to seven and winning the game 62-36. That brings the girls record to 4-7.
