CCS girls B-Ball starts season 2-0

    Under new Head Coach Zach Stauffer, the girls basketball team is off to a perfect 2-0 start to the season.
    Thursday night the girls traveled to Cozad for a game with the Haymakers. After scoring 15 points in the first quarter and holding Cozad to zero, the Longhorns were never threatened.
    The Horns held a 20-9 lead at halftime. The third quarter was pretty even, with Cozad outscoring the Horns by one point.
    The fourth quarter was all Longhorns, putting up 14 more points, while holding the Haymakers to just six. The Horns won comfortably 41-23.
    Friday night, the Horns hosted the McCook Bison. This game was back and forth all the way to the end.
    Both teams scored eight in the first quarter and the Horns held onto a one point lead at the half, 17-16.
    In the third quarter the Horns got a little separation from the Bison, building the lead to six.
    The Bison stampeded back in the fourth to pull within two at the close of the game. The Longhorns had to get the ball in bounds with just 1.2 seconds left on the clock.
    After both teams took timeouts, the Longhorns were successful in getting the ball in and closed out the win, 34-32.
