On Tuesday, Jan 13, the girls traveled to Oxford for games with the Southern Valley Eagles, (6-7).
The Eagles started the game red hot, taking an eight point lead into the second quarter. The Longhorns settled in and went shot for shot in the second and third quarter, but found themselves trailing by eight points entering the fourth quarter.
The Longhorn girls rallied and tied the score 39-39 at the end of regulation. In the overtime period, the Eagles pulled out the win, scoring six to the Longhorn’s four, winning 43-45.
Once again on Thursday night in Grant, the Longhorns found themselves trailing from the start and having to make a come back.
Perkins County jumped out to a two point lead after the first quarter and added another two by half to make the lead 21-25 at the half.
The Horns fell behind three more in the third, trailing 34-41 entering the fourth quarter. The defense stepped up, holding the Plainsmen to just nine points in the fourth, but came up a point short at the end, losing 49-50, dropping the Horns record to 4-9 for the season.
Friday night’s game against Gothenburg was postponed due to the high winds and will be rescheduled at a later date.
