Jacksen Littrel passes to Aidan Kennicut in Wauneta-Palisade’s RPAC loss to Dundy County-Stratton.

Broncos fall to DCS in RPAC opener

The first round of the RPAC tournament was not kind to the seventh seeded Wauneta-Palisade boys’ basketball team. The Broncos lost to second seeded Dundy County-Stratton (12-2) Saturday in Paxton.
Braxton McKinney and Garrett Hanna hit first quarter three pointers for WP, but the Broncos couldn’t stop DCS and trailed 13-25 at the end of the first.
WP made 4-5 free throws in the second quarter and got baskets by McKinney and Kyle Jutten.
The third quarter continued to be a problem for the Broncos. Jacksen Littrel scored WP’s only basket and his points were matched by two free throws by Ruel Malcolm.
McKinney scored four points in the fourth quarter and finished with 16 in the game, a 35-80 loss.
Monday’s snow pushed WP’s game against third seeded Maywood/Hayes Center in Wallace from Tuesday to Wednesday. With a win, the Broncos will play Friday in Benkelman. A loss would mean the end of the tournament for the Broncos.
Host Paxton
Prior to the RPAC tournament, the Broncos hosted Paxton (10-5).
WP competed well against the Tigers, WP Head Coach Rod Gaston said.
McKinney scored four first quarter points for the Broncos. Hanna and Kennicut each made a basket in the first quarter.
Hanna made five of WP’s nine points in the second quarter. McKinney and Walker added two points each. The Broncos trailed 17-21 at halftime.
