Boys second, girls third in SPVA

Chase County’s boys took second with the girls finishing third Thursday in the SPVA cross country meet held at Grant’s Pheasant Run Golf Course.
Runners got a glimpse of the type of weather they may be running in today (Thursday) in the D6 district meet in Bridgeport.
The course was wet but not muddy while temperatures hovered around the 40°F mark much of the meet. A slight breeze made it feel even a little colder.
Coach Carl Zuege said his runners handled the weather conditions well. It was good practice since cold, rain and/or snow is forecast for today.
The Longhorns didn’t have a meet the week before SPVA. This allowed them to get in some good practice in hopes of peaking during districts and state.
That work paid off last week, Zuege said, with a number of runners turning in personal bests at Grant.
Kalen Wallin led the boys with a fourth place finish. Zuege said Wallin ran really strong in the last half of the race and made up a lot of ground.
Trevin Martin claimed sixth with a personal best by 40 seconds while Mason Nordhausen’s personal best was good for the ninth place medal.
Zuege said Landis Beverly broke the 20-minute mark for only the second time. Senior Logan Medenhall ran a personal best as well.
