The Chase County Boys and Girls track teams competed in Omaha, Wednesday and Thursday, May 21-22. The boys were going for a three-peat, but moving up to class B may have something to do with them not being able to pull it off.
The boys still finished in a solid 18th place, scoring 15 points. The girls finished in a three way tie for 31st, with four points.
Scoring for the boys were Noah Rau, Kole Clevenger and Tate Hubbard. For the girls, it was Emily Randall and the 4x400 and 4x800 relay teams.
In the boys discus throw, junior Noah Rau had a large crowd gathered to watch his performance and they got a great show. Rau stepped up on his second throw and set a new meet and State record, launching the discus 203’ 9”, beating the old State record set by Larry Station of Omaha Central in 1982 of 202’ 1”. The State Meet record was previously held by Scott McPherren of Lincoln East, at 198’ 9”, set in 1993.
Rau’s throw is the ninth longest throw by a high school student in the U. S. and scored the team 10 points.
Senior, Kole Clevenger finished in sixth place in the boys long jump with a leap of 22’ 3.25”, earning the team three points.
Rounding out the scoring for the boys was sophomore Tate Hubbard, vaulting 14’ 6” in the pole vault to take seventh place and score two team points.
For the girls, Emily Randall finished eighth in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:21.09, scoring one point for the team.
The girls 4x400 relay team, (Riley Rusher, Miranda Spady, Landree McNair, Emily Randall), finished seventh with a time of 4:03.20, earning two team points.
The final point came from the girls 4x800 relay team, (Miranda Spady, Landree McNair, Elizabeth Hanna, Emily Randall), finished eighth with a time of 9:44.10.
