Boys’ three-day basketball tournament floods Lincoln

The Nebraska high school boys’ state basketball tournament begins today (Thursday) in Lincoln.
Besides No. 7 seeded Ashland-Greenwood—who beat the Longhorns in the district final—there are three teams who made the trip that played Chase County in the regular season.
Also in Class C1, Ogallala is in the No. 4 seed in the state tourney. The Indians’ first contest is against No. 5 Kearney Catholic Thursday morning.
The Longhorns fell to Ogallala early in the season, 67-59.
In Class D1, North Platte St. Pat’s, with the No. 1 seed, will take on No. 8 Pleasanton Thursday.
The Longhorns went 1-1 against the Irish this season, once on the regular schedule and once in the SPVA tournament.
Also in Class D1, No. 6 Southern Valley goes up against No. 3 Osmond Thursday afternoon.
The Longhorns bested Southern Valley 59-51 back in January.
Also representing the western half of the state, though not on Chase County’s schedule, are Scottsbluff and Alliance, both in Class B. The two western schools will face each other Thursday night.
Ashland-Greenwood takes the No. 7 seed position into the state tournament.
They will go up against No. 2 Auburn Thursday afternoon.
The championship games in all six classes will be broadcast Saturday on NET, starting with the Class D1 finals at 8 a.m. MT.
The brackets for all six classes can be found on the Nebraska School Activities Association (NSAA) website at: nsaahome.org.
