Boys’ basketball prepares for holiday tourney

UPDATE: Due to weather, the Sidney Holiday Tournament will be moved to Dec. 30 and 31

Unlike the girls, the boys’ basketball team had no games the last week of school before winter break.
“It’s going to be kind of weird,” Head Coach Chris Bartels said.
Moratorium started Sunday, which gave six days of practice for the Longhorns from their game against Ogallala on Dec. 14.
Toward the end of last week, the boys had a scrimmage for practice.
“It’s not a bad thing, not to have a game this week,” Bartels said. He intended to use the week to their advantage after the loss to Ogallala.
Bartels and the Longhorns focused on strengths last week.
“We continued to improve the stuff we’re good at and then really honed in on what we need to improve on,” he said. “It’s a good week for it.”
The Longhorns will head to the Cabela’s Holiday Shootout  in Sidney this Friday and Saturday.
Their first match up will be against Burns, Wyoming, with Friday’s tip-off at 7:15 p.m.
“It’s hard with out-of-state teams,” Bartels said. “Sometimes coaches from other states just don’t like to share video.”
If the Longhorns win the opener, they will play the winner of Mitchell and Crawford on Saturday.
“I would assume Mitchell would win that game,” Bartels said. “They’re a good team; they like to go fast and they have a lot of guards.
“I think that’d be a fun match-up.”
