The Nebraska School Activities Association released its football classifications and districts for the 2022 and 2023 football seasons.
Chase County sits atop the 36 teams in Class C2 with an enrollment of 81, tied with Wilber-Clatonia.
Ponca and Aquinas Catholic, with enrollments of 49, are the smallest schools in the class.
West Point-Beemer is the smallest of the Class C1 schools with an enrollment of 85.
District opponents for the Longhorns will be Gordon-Rushville (enrollment of 53), Hershey (53), Mitchell (78) and Valentine (72).
In D6, Wauneta-Palisade is 12th in enrollment. The Broncos’ two-year enrollment is 27. Pawnee City and Wilcox-Hildreth, with enrollments of 31, have two year exemptions and are playoff eligible as the biggest teams in the class. Sioux County, with an enrollment of 11, is the smallest.
In districts, the Broncos will face Arthur County (13), Brady (22), Paxton (25), Southwest (30), the third biggest school in Class D6, and Wallace (19).
One notable move in the classes includes McCook. The Bison move down to Class C1 and will be the fifth largest school in the class, five spots above Ogallala.
In early December the NSAA board of directors approved the classifications based on enrollment numbers provided by the Nebraska Department of Education.
Class A is made up of 31 teams and Class B has 25 teams.
Classes C1 and C2 each have 36 schools. Classes D1 and D2 each have 54 schools.
Class D6 rounds out the classifications with 32 schools.
