Two new CCS staff members hired; board okays $30,000 weight equipment purchase

Two new staff members will join Chase County Schools this fall in the art department and to fill the curriculum development position.
On Tuesday, school board members voted 9-0 to hire Hannah Ash of Kearney for the art teaching job being vacated by Carolina Ramos.
April Lambert, spouse of 2020-21 Supt. Adam Lambert, will fill the K-12 curriculum assessment/instruction director position. Michelle Williams resigned from the job.
In other action at Tuesday’s meeting, the board approved purchase of nearly $30,000 for new weight racks for the school’s body conditioning program.
New hires
Ash received a Bachelor of Arts in education K-12 art from the University of Nebraska at Kearney in December 2019.
Since January, she has served as a para-educator with the Litchfield Public Schools, working with kindergarten math and reading.
She’s also worked as a substitute teacher at Litchfield. Other activities include serving as a visitor services representative at Kearney’s Museum of Nebraska Art and as evening manager/teacher assistant at Smiling Faces Academy, a childcare center in Kearney.
Supt. Larry Lambert noted all of the candidates for the art position also met with the current CCS art teachers, which he said helped in their choice.
Lambert has a master’s in English composition and rhetoric from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (2008) and a bachelor’s in English with a Spanish minor, also from UNL (2005).
She also has endorsements in K-12 ESL and 7-12 English/language arts.
In May, she will receive her PK-12 administration degree from Wayne State College.
Since 2018, she has been with  Educational Service Unit (ESU) #17 in Ainsworth as an instructional coach. She also has teaching experience at Elkhorn South and Westside High Schools.
Since his daughter-in-law was among the applicants, Supt. Larry Lambert said he was not involved in the interviews or selection. Two board members, both principals and three teachers handled the interviews and selection, he said. Four applied and two were interviewed.
Principals Jon Lechtenberg and Becky Odens are interviewing applicants this week for three other teaching positions that currently are open.
