Two CCS students place at FBLA state convention

Six students from Chase County Schools attended the FBLA state convention in Omaha last Thursday through Saturday.
Noah Griffin, a senior at CCS, placed fourth in Insurance & Risk Management and sixth place in Accounting II.
Kalen Wallin, a junior, received an honorable mention in Cyber Security. This meant he placed in the top four percent of 143.
The other students who attended the conference were Ella O’Neil, Madison Elliott, Kadin Vrbas and Peyton Fiedler.
All participants took tests on business topics such as accounting, business communications, computer problem solving, cyber security, business calculations, help desk, personal finance and Introduction to FBLA.
“I require my senior students to compete in the job interview where they have to create a resume and cover letter before they go. They then sign up for an interview when we get there,” said Sandy O’Neil, FBLA advisor.
The students also attended seminars provided by the FBLA state advisers and watched a performance event, she added.
On Thursday, the students listened to keynote speaker Patty Hendrickson, who has received awards in talks on leadership, said O’Neil.
Hendrickson was a former officer for FBLA-PBL, (Future Business Leaders of America-Phi Beta Lambda) at the local, state and national levels.
