Towns takes silver at Ogallala speech meet

Chase County placed 12th overall

The Chase County speech team attended the Ogallala speech meet Saturday, taking five speakers.
CCS placed 12th in team points against Gering, Chadron, McCook, Ogallala, Bridgeport, Perkins County, Sutherland, Gothenburg, Mitchell, Hershey, Alliance, Leyton, Paxton, Garden County, Maxwell, South Platte and Stapleton.
“With only one finalist, this was a great achievement,” Speech Coach Alex Schilke said.
Junior Tegan Towns was the lone finalist, placing second in poetry.
“This was a hard-earned achievement for her because she had to compete against bigger schools,” Schilke said.
“I am proud of all my speakers’ improvement since the beginning of the season,” she added. “While it is always extremely rewarding to have speakers make it to the finals, I also really enjoy witnessing the growth in confidence of each of my speakers.”
The speech team will compete in the Southwest Speech Invitational Saturday.
